bleeding when I poop?

So I'm 18 and on medications that the side effects involve constipation and I have hypothyroidism which also causes constipation. INS also runs in my family. Lately anytime I poop I always feel constipated and it feels so large that I makes me bleed. I don't think I have colon cancer or anything because I feel when I get cut or whatever and it's always bright red like its at the very end of my bowl. Should I try stool softeners? I hate doctors and I know they're just going to tell me "it comes with having hypothyroidism" a
