Money wise, We give to the American cancer society (both of my birth parents passed from cancer), the hospice care that took great care of my dad, and to my church (who gives globally).  But we give items to the local animal shelters, Ronald McDonald house/children's hospital, Salvation Army, and food banks in our area. I use coupons a lot and manage to get a good amount of stuff for low prices, so that helps, and it teaches my kids that you don't have to be rich to give back to the community.

I rarely donate cash. Unless you count my ACLU membership as a donation.

Otherwise I prefer to give time. There's lots of great opportunities where I am. Some places have national roots, but all have a direct local impact.

We donate a certain portion of our money every year to help some of the less fortunate people in Kenya.

I donate between 5 and 10 percent of every paycheck to various local causes.  I also volunteer between two and four hours a week.

I'm part of the Bay Area Brain Tumor Committe, we plan the annual walk and literally start planning months ahead!

I'm also a lead teacher at an after school program that is part of a very well known non profit in San Francisco. The program is free and all of the families that attend are low income or homeless. The non profit I work at also has housing, a clinic, meals program (they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day and brown bag meals during holidays), a walk in center and support groups for addictions. It's also part of a church but the coolest thing about the church is that it is accepting of everyone. One of the former pastors is a lesbian. We are very community orientated and obviously I'm not doing it for the pay but I am very proud of the work I do.

I don't donate to charities except mental health ones. I've honestly only had bad experiences with them. They'd come up to me and I'd tell them I was 17 (you have to be 18 to donate), then they'd start telling me about their charity, and no matter how many times I'd mention my age, they'd talk over me. When they finally got to the end, and asked my age, I'd say "17" and they'd act shocked.

My worst experience was with Child Fund. I was at Central Station in Sydney, and they asked to talk to me, I politely said "no thank you" and the woman chased me half a block screaming "I'm talking to you!!!"

Honestly, the more you harass and pressure someone to donate, the less likely they're going to. If they want to, they'll do it out of the goodness of their heart.

I need a new action plan now that I'm 18. I can't use my age as an excuse anymore.

I donate once in awhile but not likely. We don't make enough money to give away. My husband works his butt off and our money goes so fast with mortgage and bills that by the time everything is paid we don't even have $100 left over lol.
