Liking a friend

I am starting to like a friend of mine, I just broke up with my ex and rejected someone who was in love with me (from my friend group too), and now I'm starting to like this friend, who also has a crush on one of our friends who recently got a relationship. (I know it's confusing.) So I like this guy who likes someone who's in a relationship. Am I just feeling empathy for him and looking for a rebound or could this be real? I'm so confused.
