formula question?

Trying to get prepared if I can't breastfeed...... for a newborn, what kind of formula do we use? How long does a regular size can of formula last (days?)? Thanks y'all!!

Start looking for places that give little gift bags. Inside of those often have small free trial cans of formula. Enfamil newborn is created to be similar to early breastmilk. But do NOT stock up on one kind before the baby is born. The baby might be allergic to it or just not like it. The only formula my son will drink is Parents Choice, and that's Walmart brand. He refuses the name brands and always has. Which is unfortunate because wic only pays for Gerber or Similac I believe, so I have to pay cash for all of his. 
As a newborn, your baby will only eat a couple ounces at a time. So a can will probably last you about a week. Once they start eating more at a time though is when it gets crazy expensive. I buy the big tub of formula, which is about 18 dollars since my husband works for Walmart and has a discount card. I believe the large tub makes 54-4 ounce bottles. I go through 4-5 of those a month, along with baby food and snacks for him (he's 7 months old). 
His doctor started solids at 4 months though, which dropped his formula intake. He was wanting up to 16 ounces of formula within a couple hours before we started solids, so if you notice your baby wanting a crazy amount around that time, talk to his pediatrician about solids or you'll be spending a lot of money trying to keep him full.

Good start or infamil and one can will probably last about a week maybe less if you have a really hungry baby.

Similac is what they give you in the hospital and it's also a good formula. Works pretty good.

Formula depends on the baby. We've always used enfamil(2 different babies), but there are like 20 different types inside the brand. If i remember correctly it was 1 - 2 cans a week.

I use the similar blue one from birth. The whole bottle (ready to feed) Idk how much ounces but the first 2 months she would go through 1 bottle 2-3 days. When she got to 6 month I believe it was one a day. She's a muncher so she basically wastes 2 ounce every feeding and get hungry within the next hour. 😫

The formula can depend on babies needs. My son had no Belly problems or anything. So I used Similac Advanced (blue container) and when he was first born and was eating every 3 hours a can would only last about 3-4 days. As baby gets older you can add cereal and the cans lasts a little longer. I breastfed for a month then somehow I dried up and had to go to formula. You can talk to the doctor about what formula is best for your baby.
