I would be mad but at the same time I wouldn't want my money back. I gave them something that is now owned by them, they can do whatever they want with it. It's not my job to tell them what they can and can't do with something even if I gave it to them.

No. If I give someone something, it is a gift, meaning it is theirs. They can do with it what they want. I wouldn't buy them another, though, and would tell them they broke it, so they can buy another if they want it so bad.

If I were her...I'd be extremely pissed and refuse to buy him anything if not even go as far as ending the relationship because that's childish and if he is angry enough to purposefully break something of value it isn't long before he starts losing his temper and breaking her face. She can't really demand money back for it sadly because they're dating and most courts will see it as she gifted the phone to him and she would have to prove to the court that it was loaned or bought with the intent of being paid back for it.
