Advice/help please

I've been interested in joining a sorority and I decided to find out more information about one. I told my boyfriend and even said I was interested in trying to be recruited and such and then he said he doesn't want me to and is scared of something happening. Now he's not trying to be controlling by flat out telling me I can't join or anything similar but I am frustrated because I got excited and I just want some advice and personal opinions. :/
