How come starting off in sex it's painful?

So I'm a small girl and I am very tight. I've only had sex with one person and that's my boyfriend of over two years(I was his first also) always when we are starting off it hurts,no matter if we have lots of foreplay.. Once we start going after a few minutes I'm fine but is it normal to hurt?

I'm 30 and have been sexually active for going on 12 years and it STILL hurts starting out too. It has nothing to do with foreplay or lube for me. I'm always plenty worked up and in the mood... It just always hurts like I'm closed up. My husband isn't even that big. I also have probs with tampons though. Always have. I have a very small pelvic opening I'm told, despite being a "bigger" girl, but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I just think we're all different. Even my GYN doc tells me when I go in to see her that I always seem "tensed up"- I've been going to her for years so I'm plenty comfortable with her. It's just the way I am.
