Friends! Am I being insecure??

Question

I need some advice!! My very best friend has gone to school to be a teacher. She's spent lots of money on her education and now can't find a job in our very small town.

I work as a CNA and make $12 an hour. I only work 15 hrs a week and I'm right around the corner from my family. It's perfect for my family and myself!

My friend and I hang out pretty much everyday, our kids are same age and we've been besties for about 13 yrs!!

She's looking for work but being VERY picky!!! Every time a job comes up she puts it down saying it's only $12 an hour. She keeps putting down my wage. It get she's spent all this money and needs to pay it back but does she really need to put down my wage?!? Am I just being insecure or is she being rude as hell!?! So this morning she comes over to exercise and starts talking crap about $12 an hour  jobs again!😠🙁 I mean, really?? Why does she have to use my wage?? Ugh!! Am I being petty???

Sounds like she's a little jealous.  With her college degree she probably expected to make a lot more money.  Seeing her friend have a job and being happy may be making her jealous.  I imagine she figured everything would go perfect for ... is twelve dollars a lot,  no, however it's a whole hell of a lot better then zero dollars an hour! Maybe she's feeling depressed or whatever,  but friends shouldn't be putting one down.  I know how hard you work and that your job entails they you do some of the crappier stuff.  I'd be happy and proud of my friend, regardless of her wage ! 💖

I think maybe SHES a little insecure. She has a degree and spent money on her education probably thinking that automatically came with a good, high-paying job, which it doesn't. Your job works for you and your family and that's what's important. Plus, $12/hr is a hell of a lot more than the $0/hr she's currently making 😬

I know for me, I made almost 12 an hour 40 hours a week at one time. It would not support us with my student loans plus all of our living expenses now. Everyone always said go to college get a good paying job. So you kind of expect to get a high paying job with your hard earned degree to pay for your degree you now owe thousands for.  So she may really just need to make more to survive. However, with that said, she should take what she can get now and continue looking for better pay. If I could afford to work for less pay, I would be doing exactly what I love.

Have you told her that it hurts you when she puts down your pay? Maybe she does not realize it. Sit her down and talk to her. Good luck!

I think you're taking it personally when it's not meant as a jab at you. She obviously has a lot of student loans to repay and she literally can't afford a lower wage.
