hey ladies I need some help!

Ive had the iud since July 2016 and after three months my period became regular again. It started to get light which I was thankful for but I'm supposed to be getting my period but I'm 3 days late and I'm freaking out. I do have a boyfriend and sometimes we don't use protection. I've done some research about the iud and how it can stop you from getting periods but does it happen that abruptly? Should I take a test just in case?
