Maternity leave and short term disability

So I had to ask my HR a question and figured I'd ask her about when we should go over the whole maternity leave under STD while I was there. I was employed early Nov. Got pregnant is Dec. (we stopped trying til the end of the most stressful portion of the year, so it was a big surprise for us.) Currently I'm 15w 3d. I have medical insurance, STD, and LTD all at work. She told me basically I am unable to file for any disability until working 1 year at the company. So if that's the case, why weren't we told this upon hiring. I'm paying towards something I can't even use for a whole year.

Would you be pissed? Now I'm not sure what we will do for the 6 or so weeks I'm out from work financially. She said I can only file under "emergency leave" and that's only 6 weeks. I don't even think I get paid for it, they just hold my position.
