I think it depends on the situation. My dad hated my now husband. He's 2 1/2 years older than me and my dad threatened to go to the police if he continued to see me since I was 16 and he was 18. We had been dating for years though. I tried being interested in others closer to my age, but just didn't want to be in any other relationship, I knew he was the one for me. I moved out of my dad's 2 weeks after I turned 18 and moved into boyfriends apartment. We've been happily married for almost 5 years and have 2 kids.
