Amniocentsis for lung maturity?!?!

I just got to my 36th week mark and baby boy can not be measured on sono anymore according to my doctor and sono tech. They said he's measuring at 41+weeks. So woth-my diabetes my doctor now wants me to see another doctor for an Amniocentsis to check his lungs for maturity. I don't know know why they cant just give me steroids and give me extra insulin for the steroids. I'm scared and nervous beyond all doubt!!! Any mommas going threw this?!?!

That seems odd to me. My first instinct is to tell you to trust your doctor as they should know best. However, my child measured 42 weeks before delivery at 38 weeks and they were able to properly assess his lungs and growth. Having an amnio to assess lung maturity is becoming obsolete because of advanced ultrasounds and the effective use of steroids. The risks of an amnio in the third trimester are quite low, but if it makes you at all nervous I would request to see a MFM specialist to see if there is an alternative option.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I'm going to request to have this new doctor check my chart over. All blood tests, urine, Sonos, and non stress tests. I just don't understand why not just give me steroids and schedule my csection for next Monday when I'll be 37 weeks!!!
