polyamory?

Hi! So today I went to an event in my school where we talked about polyamory. It is a term that I had googled before (I watched vids and read articles) and I just never understood what it was. Now, I thought that after going to that event my doubts would be cleared, but not all were. I personally don't agree with polyamory (same way I don't agree w ppl who drink and smoke) but I don't care and won't discriminate/bully someone who practices that lifestyle. What do you guys think? Some questions I asked were answered saying "depends on the relationship" but I want more than that. I know it all depends on the people involved but it's the same w monogamy and when I explain something I use my relationship as an example.
