grunting ?

My baby falls asleep and keeps waking up randomly grunting and straining like he's trying to poop but nothing comes out. His face turns red and he squirms around. The only time he seems fine is if he is sleeping on my chest but as soon as we put him on his back he is back to fussing and grunting . Anyone else have this issue ?

He's probably just gassy or having a little bit of reflux. Is it worse after feeding? Holding him upright on your chest is probably helping the gas or reflux. 
Our son is a little reflux-y so we try and hold him upright on our chest and rock him for about 30 minutes after feeding and it seems to have helped.

Probably reflux and not gas. Our girl was doing that and we thought it was gas. Turns out the grunting was clearing her throat because it burned and the tensing up was because of pain.

Gas? He might need a little help getting either the poop, fart or burp out. I would try laying him on his back and push his little legs up towards his belly. Like hes on a bicycle. Or infant gas drops. I'm a first time mom and by no means an expert, but that seems to help my little man.

My little girl does that to. She did it for 3 hrs the other night. I feel so bad and don't know what to do for her.
