Date or not?

So, I have this guy friend and were pretty close but I've never thought of him in a romantic way because I have a boyfriend who I love very much. Anyway, today he said that him and a few friends are going out and he wanted to bring someone with him and he thought of me. I want to go but only as friends, not a date in any way. So my question is, do you think he asked me to go as his date or just a friend? Btw, my bf is busy but he knows the situation and said it is up to me.
