Contest Bias

Violet • Duel Majoring in Anthropology and English. :)
So I was at a cosplay contest with my friends over the weekend and almost all the people that won were white females. Only two guys won out of like eight or nine categories. One won because he was part of a duo, the other because he was in a giant totoro costume (which was actually pretty neat.) And only one black girl won(but I think she may have been the only one in general so I think that's not too big of an issue.)
All three of the judges were middle aged white women.
Not only, were there guys that deserved it more, there were girls that deserved it more than the ones who actually one. Especially the best in show girl who's costume wasn't even that great!!! There were other girls that deserved it so much more and obviously worked wayyyy harder on their costumes. One girl hand embroidered LEDs into her costume and it looked really cool and didn't win anything. You could hear in their voices whether or not they cared about who they were announcing on stage.
Also, we had a friend in the contest who had worked for a year on his costume and was Genji and his sword lit up and his armor was amazing and he was nominated for the crowd favorite and lost because someone entered their two year old in the contest as "pinkie pie" even though she basically just wore a pink wig and a tutu.
I am a HUGE feminist and think that we deserve equality, but equality isn't picking girls over guys when they obviously don't deserve it. People should be judged for their skill and hard work, not their sex or personality or age.
Would this make any of you mad? Whether it be the two year old beating someone who spent over a year on their costume or the bias judges who obviously just wanted to pick females or people they liked anyway?
PS: This isn't just a pissed off friend, everyone we heard in the crowd was complaining about how rigged it was as well and over one hundred people wanted pictures with him just one the first day of the con and people came up to him (even those in the contest) right after and swarmed him for pictures. He honestly worked so hard and looked so good and didn't win anything. If he sucked, I wouldn't be this mad.
