Internet safety
Right my question to all you lovely ladies is:
"do you think social media should require ID in order to set up an account?"
With the internet becoming more and more popular I personally believe that social media platforms should require ID in order to create an account. Facebook claims you cannot join if you're under 13 HOWEVER it takes 2 seconds to work out what date of birth you have to input in order to qualify for registration. If social media sites asked for ID and say a confirmation from their parents then it would stop children being exposed to the World Wide Web before they are ready. Most social media sites have these rules put in place to avoid children viewing, writing or listening to things they shouldn't be.
I understand my view is flawed, firstly, children don't have ID's however in the UK you can get a citizenship card at any age which shows who you are and what age. Mainly used when 16 year olds want to buy energy drinks but don't have a licence yet. Secondly, kids can lie still, by taking someone else's ID and/or responding on their parents behalf.
But think about it hypothetically, are any of you mothers who worry about their children using the internet? Because let's face it we can't be with them 24/7 especially when it comes to monitoring online. Or do you think it's invading their privacy and they should be allowed social media at any age?
I just think there should be tougher restrictions than just input your age and away you go. Thanks for listening and any comments!
