nipple shield??

Question

Anyone EBF with a nipple shield? 
They gave it to me in the hospital because I was getting so red and sore, but baby girl has latched so much better with it. (I have flat but not inverted nipples) I'm healed up now and would like to get her off of it but am dreading the work. Breast feeding is already demanding.(literally... on demand) 
Should I just wait till she is older/stronger or will that make it harder for her to switch? 
I haven't touched my pump yet but I heard that can help draw out my nipples.. should I try that first? 
Advice is appreciated.

I used it until my daughter was 4 months... she's now 2 and still breastfeeding.

I believe the nipple shield saved breastfeeding for me. I was in so much pain it would bring me to tears everytime i fed my little guy. The shields got me to a place where I was able to feed him without any pain and then eventually feed him comfortably without the shield. It took us a day or two to feed without the shields but the switch wasn't too crazy (for us). Best of luck!

I would start trying to wean ASAP. It took 6 weeks to get my daughter off but it's much better without. The baby can pull out more milk without the shield so feedings usually become shorter. Mine went from 20-30 minute feeds to 8-15 minutes

🙋 Unfortunately my DS will only nurse with a shield unless I sneak it off when he is sleeping. It actually works much better now without the shield since it's not painful to nurse anymore but he insists I use it 😊

i think every mother and baby is different when it comes to the shield. i used it for 10 weeks, my girl was 5 weeks early and i have one flat nipple. i tried a few times before our 10 week mark but never committed until i got annoyed using it. anyway, if she didn't latch right away, she would get mad and i'd have to revert back. tried quitting cold turkey but my nipples hurt so much so i slowly weaned off. 7 months in and it's so much easier. i hope its an easy transition for you!
