Yes, as well as have the opportunity to get them back, except in the most extreme of cases. Study after study has shown this leads to the best long term outcomes.

I think it totally depends on the situation as to why they were taken away in the first place.

Depends on what they were taken away for. Physical emotional or sexual abuse? Absolutely not. Pretty much everything else, yes, so the kids can have answers and know their parents may have made mistakes and they are facing the consequences but it doesn't mean they abandoned them or don't love/want them.

It depends. Does the child want to? Is their parent a potential risk of harm to the child?

Circumstantial. If it's in the childs best interest to see the parent without living with them, yes.
A good example, it was vital that I was able to see my parents. But definitely not in my best interest to live with them.

it definitely depends. if they got taken away because the parents were beating the shit out of them, no. if it was due to an addiction and they are getting help, or because they couldn't afford to take care of them, yes.

It depends if the child wants to, I had a friend in highschool who had court ordered vists with her mom that abused her, she refused to go and the police showed up at her foster families door. My parents were foster parents and this is much more common than you think among all age groups

I'm watching a friend of mine go through this now... She has been fostering these kids and is now trying to adopt. The kids are sisters, a year apart, both addicted to heroin at birth and my friend has had custody since they day they were born. The mother has had 7 children in total and each one of them has been the exact same story. She signs away her rights as soon as they are born. One of the girl's father is unknown so my friend has been able to fully adopt her. The other ones father got out of jail and wants custody. But he hasn't passed a single drug test and hasn't shown up for his visitation except once. The judge is giving him 2 more months and moved the day of visitation around to see if he can make it... This baby is now 18 months old, is still dealing with the heroin addiction, she can't walk or crawl yet, can't hold her bottle and can't talk. She has therapy every single day and has never known anyone but my friend and her husband. To uproot this child for a man who can't get his hungover ass out of bed on a Saturday morning is beyond all belief. If he can't pass a drug test and get to visitation on time, or hold a job, what makes you think he's going to take care of this child's needs? The only thing keeping her where she is is the fact that her 3 year old sister trumps grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc. Whereever he sister is, she will be. He has just been given 8 more visitation dates. If he misses 2 of them his rights will be taken away and my friend can adopt the baby... this should have happened over a year ago!  I firmly believe the parents should be given one chance.  Get a job, pass your drug tests, show up to visitations, get your stuff in order and provide a safe place for the child in your home - if you truly want your kids you will make it happen.... Otherwise you should lose all rights!
