Am i wrong for doing this?

Me and my ex broke up about three weeks ago. I broke up with him. I said my goodbyes to his family. We still text every once in awhile and he will call me and tells me he loves and misses me. I don't say it back. He knows i love him but i had to leave him because of his drug issues. I told him i don't really think we should see each other again until he chooses to do something different with his life. He said he would, but I'm not gonna wait around forever. I've been hanging out with other guys, some are friends. I figured I'm not wrong in doing this because I'm single. But yet i feel like I'm cheating my heart. I know eventually I'm gonna have to close the door on my ex completely.
