what do y'all think

So my bf and I have a few years but... I decided I want to have a tiny ceremony of us and close family maybe on a beach nothing too expensive but very intimate. Then on a year or so after I graduate college (doctorate degree, both have jobs and more settled we can have a ceremony with his big family and invite my family (a lot smaller that's why it mainly would be his family there lol). This will also allow us time to dedicate more time to planning and be less stressed about the whole thing. I know it's untraditional but I think it's unique to us.  Has anyone else did this? It seems like the perfect compromise. I never wanted gifts at my wedding so now I can use the excuse that we really don't need anything.
