IUD or take the pill?

Anyone have paragard or Mirena or just taking the pill? Considering birth control options

I have Paraguard and love it. It was a little uncomfortable to have put it, but not painful, and they did an ultrasound during and after to make sure that it was done correctly. I had mild cramping and spotting for two days after having it put in. I just started getting a period again, but it wasn't heavier or more painful so that's also a plus. It works great for me and I love that it isn't messing with my hormones.

I had paraguard and loved it. No issues or side effects, got it taken out and was able to start trying for baby immediately. Was pregnant within the month. So none of that body adjustment period like many women get when they come off of the pill. And no negative side effects for the time i had it in either.

It's different for everyone girl! I was on the pill for 3 years, and was a total biotch... the hormone levels made me crazy (even on the low-dose pill). Then I switched to Mirena (which still has hormones, but much less and on a local level) and loved it. Had it for 3 years - then had it removed to TTC. Now 6 months pregnant!

Do you want another kid in less than 5 years? I got pregnant young, off of a combo of the NuvaRing and the patch, and knew I couldn't afford to have anymore kids until I grew up a little more. I got the Mirena placed shortly after I had my son, and kept that for the full 5 years.  It stopped my period, which was nice to not have to deal with.  At the end of the 5 years, I replaced it with the Paraguard, to try and minimize some of the hormones in my body. I had read horror stories of Paraguard causing your periods to be super heavy and painful, but I didn't really find that to be true. Maybe slightly heavier, but definitely not more painful.  I kept that in for another 4 years before my husband and I decided we wanted to try for a baby.  After this child comes, I'll likely go back to Paraguard. I could never remember to take a pill daily. But an IUD is more long-term (5 or 10 years, respectively), and it's a more expensive up front cost (although it's probably cheaper in the long run, I haven't done the math on what 10 years of the pill will run you). So unless you're planning to hold off for the next few years, something more short term may be a better bet.
