Do you think children are conditioned to like certain things more according to their gender?

I have two nieves I babysit for regularly. I take them to most things and have realized that even at such a young age (3) my youngest nieces soccer team is primarily boys and my older nieces gymnastics gym is mainly girls. Do you think certain genders are conditioned to like activities or is it biological? What are your thought of this? Would you put your little boy in dance or your little girl in football?
