tampons hurt my stomach?

So whenever I insert a tampon it makes me feel sick. Like I could throw up any second. Today Thai happened and I wanted for like 20 minutes to see if the feeling would pass and it didn't so I took it out. The throw up feeling lasted about 30 after I took it out. Is this normal? Has this happened to anyone else? Please answer, I need tampons for dance but I can't wear them because I get sick
