Cereal?

Question

So my baby's doctor said we could try cereal in her bottle at night once she's three months. This seems early to me? Or is that right? Also do I go up a nipple size and how much do I put in it? Confused FTM here lol

It's all about knowing your baby, some babies aren't ready for anything other than milk till late on and some are ready earlier than most. It's your personal choice and whether you feel your baby is ready, I've been putting a little rusk in baby's bottle at night since 2 months as he had really bad reflux which this has help alot and I've had no problem with it. Go with your gut

Too early 6 months is the standard recommendation & you're not supposed to put it in bottles but recently I saw bottles made for cereal... but i wouldn't recommend it...

We've been adding rice cereal to our daughter's nighttime bottle since 2 months due to reflux/spit up issues at night. We use a size 2 nipple (Avent bottle) for that feeding only. She's now 3.5 months and no longer has these issues and sleeps really well. Last night she slept a full 9 hours!

We aren't there yet. But with my first who is now 15 he had such bad reflux so we had cereal in his bottle at 2 weeks!!! It was a life saver! Now my second has bad reflux and I asked the dr yesterday if I can use cereal, she hasn't gotten back to me yet. Follow your gut, we aren't dr's and it's used for more uses than just teaching them to eat. Every child is different :)

Cereal goes in a bowl, not a bottle my doctor says. Also, 4 months is when they recommend feeding them rice cereal.

I've talked to my doctor extensively on this topic. I keep reading the pros and cons and each side appears to have the statistic on their side.

That being said: adding cereal to a bottle has little to no benifits.

My doctor also said that there isn't a specific day you can or should start to introduce other foods. Sometime between 3-9 months. Although, they suggest to wait until six months. If your baby appears consistently unsatisfied after feedings; then it's time to CONSIDER adding more to your little ones diet.

Your doctor is your best resource. If you don't agree or question his or her tactics; there is no shame in getting a second doctors opinion.

I really like that no one wants to listen to the DOCTOR. The one who went to school and got a degree for what they specifically do. Apparently everyone else with their opinion on here is always right I guess.

My baby's doctor said if I was feeding her formula that she would recommend adding cereal to make it thicker and more filling for the baby.  She is older and has been a doctor for years.  I did it with my older kids when they were babies and they were fine. I just made a slit in the nipple because it would just get clogged.

I would suggest following your gut. Rice in the bottle is controversial these days. I remember doing it with my first daughter 10 years ago because that's what people did. I will probably be starting cereal myself cause my almost 3 month old is eating constantly. You know your child the best and if you are comfortable with it, go for it. Just don't lay baby down right away. Rice cereal doesn't really change the texture much.
