I just broke my tooth

I'm honestly kindof scared. I had a filling fall out, it fell out last week.
I didn't think much of it, it was an old filling and I know that they can fall out over time.
It left a pretty jagged hole in my tooth, it didn't hurt though. No sensitivity, nothing. So I didnt consider it an emergency, I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow and I figured when I get back I'll see a dentist and redo it. Tonight while eating,  the back end of the tooth broke off. This tooth is the very back one on my left bottom side.
The back of it is gone, and I see some soft white tissue in it. It hurts to touch. I tried touching it because I was like holy shit is that a nerve? I have absolutely no idea what a nerve looks like. I know that it doesn't hurt (right now anyways) to eat or drink. I have guts and I tested it.
I'm not really sure what to do because again, I leave tomorrow to go out of state. The whole thing is already paid for. And I'm not even the one that paid for it. Someone is fully paying a vacation for me out of complete generosity and it's been planned for months.
So my questions are: how do I tell if it's a nerve? Is this an emergency? If I can take a decent picture I'll show you. It feels so strange. I don't understand how you can break your teeth and not feel pain. It's broken down to the gum and it doesn't hurt? You know those dreams you have where you're teeth are falling out and you're tripping? This is equivalent to that.
