When should I switch carseats?

My son y 20 pound and measures 29 , he looks really uncomfortable and tight in the small carseat ?
He is 6 months

Probably soon if he's not liking it. My son is smaller than yours and is so over his infant seat. His shoulders don't fit so he tries to sit up the whole time. His new convertible came today.

Probably now. Dr told me most parents switch around 20lbs. Your baby is also tall. What is the height limit on your infant seat? Mine was only 29".

Depends on which carseat you have, they all have different weight and length limits. We got a chicco keyfit for our first baby and the weight limit is 30 or 35lbs (cant quite remember exactly) and we would have kept her in it until then but we had a second baby so he got her carseat and moved her over to a bigger convertible carseat that i believe has a weight limit of 65lbs. My daughter weighs about 23lbs
