My son is 2 weeks old and my MIL says I shouldn't hold him all the time especially when he sleeps because he needs to learn how to comfort himself. She also says we shouldnt be letting him sleep in our room for much longer. She says this because her first child ended up sleeping in bed with her until she was 8 years old. I'm not planning on him sleeping in our room forever, but he's so little right now and I just don't want him too far away. And I love holding him on my chest especially when he sleeps, I love to comfort him. We are going to have him sleep in his nursery once he is big enough, and I don't really think I'm doing anything wrong with soothing him when he gets fussy and just wants to be held.
