I get the concept behind spanking but I just can't get pass how hypocritical it is. You expect your children to not use violence but yet you get them to listen to you by being violent towards them. It just seems hypocritical to me. I'm not against those who spank but I personally, don't plan on ever doing it.

Most of us were spanked as kids and lets just say we turned out fine. I remember the first few times i got spanked and i sure can tell you it didnt just grab my attention at that moment but forever. It certainly made me think twice about my actions in the future and i never did those things again. 
I got busted writing on the walls, smacked once with an explanation as to why it was wrong and obviously i never did it again.

Will i do the same with my kid yes, my husband and i are on the same page, why because it works and i refuse to let my kid become a sensitive sunflower that ends up on the news these days because they cant handle reality.

You'd be pretty POd if your boss HIT you to teach you how to do your job correctly why would it be ok to HIT a child?

I think slapping the back of a baby's hand is the dumbest layziest thing ever. I have a 2 year old and I just tell her no and why a couple of times and she moves on. 
I wonder to myself why my parents didn't just do that instead of automatically swatting the back of the hand.

So what do you moms plan on doing when your talking your children doesn't work? When grounding them doesn't affect them? When they don't care if you take away tv, toys & etc? I've seen mothers being disrespected by their children to the point where I'm dumb founded, I guess when they get used to the fact that their mom isn't gonna do anything they figure why not. By all means if you don't want to spank your children that's fine but don't try to make it seem like it's such a horrible thing for the women that do.

I think so, if I have tried all that I have and nothing works. My 2 year old neice has been hitting my son and on occasion she kicked him in the face and caused him to bleed. Her mom just puts her in her room and talks to her but she keeps hitting my son. If it was my kid, I would slap the hand or something because whatever she is doing is not working and maybe her daughter would understand that she is causing someone else pain and stop.

Swatting hands no, because it shows to hit whenever youre not happy with something. Spanking used only as a last resort if they dont respond to other forms of punishment is what we plan on.

If my son is sticking his finger into a light socket and I tell him no more than once and he continues to try to kill himself yes I swat his hand. It's only for dangerous activities. (We do have light socket protectors that's just an easy example)

A baby or a young child's brain is not developed enough to have impulse control or reasoning until closer to age 4 and verbal impulse control doesn't develop until around 8 years old. Even if your kid may logically know that they shouldn't touch or say something their brains aren't developed enough to override the impulse to do it anyway. Hitting them doesn't change that. They just fear you instead. You are literally hitting your children for something they do not have the brain capacity not to do.

It is illegal to spank children in over thirty countries worldwide but legal in the U.S. If hitting children is the best way to raise respectful kids and reduce crime then why does the U.S have the largest prison population in the world? Food for thought.
