Do you think being a single father or single mother is harder

Question

I'm curious to see the response because recently I realized a lot of people think single fathers don't face as many struggles as single mothers. I wondered if everyone on this app has the same mindset. If you want to have a conversation about your view that would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you chose one or the other I would love to see the reasoning behind your decision.

A single parent is a single parent regardless of gender.

They are both hard but I think people look down on single mums whereas if it's a single dad it's viewed at 'what a wonderful man, look how much he loves his kids and he's doing it all on his own' 🙄.

My husband was paying $300/mo in child support for his child, because the courts decided that was roughly half of what it cost to raise a child. Mother was on food stamps, Medicaid, lowered rent and housing, etc.  The mother took off and continued to bounce around states, and constantly change her phone number so we could never track her down to get visitation. When she finally came back in the picture, when the child was 6 and had no idea who his dad was, we realized she was on meth. We took her to court and got full sole custody. The court decided she owed us $10/mo in child support.  This kid is obviously costing us more than $20 a month. So because she has an addiction and refuses to work, the courts expect us to support this kid without any help from her. We haven't gotten child support from her once (we've had custody over a year now). Maybe the court doesn't care, because we aren't on any type of assistance, so they don't have to go after her to get paid back.  
Regardless, one parent shouldn't be responsible to support the entire financial weight of raising a child. And it seems, in my experience, that child support is skewed heavily in favor of women.

I watched different struggles with both my parents. I want to say it's equal, but my dad went through way worse than what my mom did. IMO. So I chose single fathers. Just from my experience that's what it's been.

Maybe because my moms blonde hair blue eyed white girl, and my dad a darker skin Mexican idk maybe there are some factors there, but I did notice my dad face way more jail time than what my mom did, and she was the one who kept us in dangerous situations🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

How would it be harder for either gender? You both have to change the kids diaper, you both have to take care of it...

My dad and my mom were single parents for a while. It was equally hard for both of them

Just being a single PARENT is hard, period. Doesn't matter which parent it is, it's hard and both should get an equal amount of credit for raising their child/ren when the other parent doesn't give a damn

I'd say they both come with their own struggles. Plus every single parent situation is so different that it's hard to judge. My sons father got to stay in the house and had multiple vehicles, almost all our sons clothes and necessities when I left him. I literally had to start from scratch and couch hopped until I could get on my feet after being a sahm and had zero savings. So at the time I considered my situation harder but he had his own struggles at the same time. It really just depends.

Considering men make more than women and women only qualify for certain jobs that we cant change id say it would be harder to be a single mom
