Should we get rid of the political party system?

Question

Think about this.. If I all the media we had today censored out all political party information on political candidates and they all had black tape over the R, D, G, or T, ect. Next to their names would you know who to vote for? (Rhetorical Question BTW)

George Washington himself described how the party system could be harmful to American politics before he left office.. and how it creates a need for power. Like when political leaders vote against their own views just to keep their party a majority.

As I meet more and more people I'm seeing more and more blind loyalty to these parties and more lazy voters who don't want to research, or don't research enough on the cannadite they vote for.
I myself believe we should all have the same ballots with the same people on them without their party next to their names, ect. We should not have to register as a certain party to see those certain people on a ballot either.

One example of blind loyalty to a party... using FRM. President Obama and Current POTUS Trump...
When Obama bombed Syria in response to the chemical attacks on its citizens, allegedly by their leader Assad, the approval rating by Republicans was a mere 22% (Trump himself tweeted in disapproval of those bombings btw). However when President Trump preformed a Syrian bombing for the exact same reason the bombing received an 87% approval rating from Republicans. Why would this be if the reasoning and reactions are the same? This is where the variable of their political party plays a big role.

So if you do or don't believe we should keep the political party system, describe why and your reasoning behind it, please.

I strongly think our party system is detrimental to our country. Too many people only care if there's an "R" or "D" by someone's name and put their parties best interest ahead of their own and their country.

This is why I don't classify myself to a specific party. I might have more liberal views but I would never just vote democrat just because. I'd vote based on the person running, period. So yeah, I think we should get rid of the party system completely. It would be hard, though because it's so engraned in our brains that we would put people in parties in our heads, but at least then a person would actually have to know the runners political views.

George Carlin was great on this subject. We have the semblance of choice, but really, we have none. Our political system is the equivalent of two sides of the same coin. A pluralist system like in Italy would be better. Then, multiple parties could get into Congress and the power structure would be less concentrated.

I think we should absolutely get rid of the two party system. At the very least we should add more parties so there's more options or abolish parties in general. People are really just misinformed on issues and only vote for the party and not the policy. It's extremely flawed that this our system when there are so many different opinions and ways of thinking that couldn't possibly be inhabited within two parties.

A party system is important in democracies that operate on a majority parliamentary voting system. Without parties parliament would be far less efficient and it would take much longer to make reforms (just gave a look at the ineffectiveness of minority's governments). However two party democracies like the one in the US/most countries are damaging. They leave voters with nowhere to turn when the two main parties do not offer voters what they want. The result us often hung parliaments and minority governments.

Personally, I don't believe everyone can push all their values and views into one certain party. There's just so many different issues and fixes. When people ask me what party I identify with I tell them that I don't, I just believe what I believe 💁🏼
