What age did your little ones learn how to swim without floaties?

My 6 year old niece will NOT even try to learn to swim without floaties and when we try to help her she freaks out and starts swimming. She's grown up around the pool and her brother was swimming without floaties at 4. But she just won't even TRY. Just curious to see when everyone else's little ones ditched the floaties.

My first was 4. My second child is extremely cautious. He's 4 now and won't be ready anytime soon. He also says he's never taking his training wheels off. My first son took his training rules off just after turning 4. All kids are differently. Some children are afraid of water and some never learn to swim. I see no issue here.

I didn't learn to swim until I was 9. I was terrified, but I also rarely (maybe once every summer) went to the pool. My friends daughter has been swimming with out a floatie simce one, and my daughter just turned one and is not far behind. Every kid is different.
