Dogs/kids

If someone can't handle or doesn't like dogs, do you think they will be able to handle a child? I've been told a lot that since I can't stand dogs that I shouldnt have kids because they are similar, but I disagree since I am a big sister and pretty much raised my 2 sisters and 1 brother.
