That one friend...

I recently saw a post about "that one friend"... You know, the friend we know who seems to have life by the horns. We admire, respect, and feel jealous of her all at the same time. A lot of women compare themselves to their "one friend" thinking they are obviously doing something wrong, they missed the "perfect life" contract at birth. Well, I know for a fact that a perfect friend is nonsense.

I struggled a little with this recently myself. I kept looking into other's lives and comparing my situation because I was so unhappy with myself. I thought ANYONE could be better than me at that point. The moment that really woke me up was when I was thinking about one of my best friends. She's gorgeous, successful, very smart, thin, and such a go-getter. I was thinking to myself, "Goodness, I wish I were somewhat like her. I wish I was as skinny as her. I mean, she does have an abusive boyfriend but..." That's when I retraced my thought. Was I really saying I'd settle with an abusive boyfriend just to be skinny like her? Yep... I just thought that. The scary part is I have a loving, adoring husband who I treasure day and night.

That's when I realized, I can't do this to myself. None of my friends are perfect. They're humans, not Superman. They have issues in their lives just like anyone else, issues that are probably better not known. They probably look at me and think, "I wish I was happily married like her, I wish my man was ok with having a child.."

So, my lesson learned was I HAVE to stop doing this to myself. Yes we all have that one friend who makes life look easy. She can manipulate life as if it were playdough. Truth is, her life is probably insane and she's one blip away from losing her balance.

Everyone has that "one friend" but most likely you're the "one friend" to them. No one is perfect, everyone struggles with their own battles. Don't let jealousy block your relationships. Stay social and keep encouraging each other. Love each other and know when you have your ups and downs, so are they.
