breastmilk ok for vegans?" /> There was recently a story about a baby who died from starvation because the parents only gave the baby vegetable milk since they were vegan and would not give him cows milk. We all know they were very wrong. But it made me wonder, maybe they wouldn't give him breast milk because it is milk from a mammal? Do vegans consider breastmilk to be ok if they are raising a vegan child? Or is it off limits according to definition because it is not plant based?

Not a vegan but I have done some research and yes vegans can breastfeed because human breast milk came from a human and not from a animal that Baby didn't die because of Veganism it died of asshole parents starving and neglecting there child

I'm not vegan but I would imagine it would be ok since breastmilk is a product of our own species and not taking resources from non consenting animals. I am utterly disgusted that these parents let their child starve. Babies need either breastmilk or forumula that is common sense and these parents should absolutely face prison time for killing their child this is purely on them and has absolutely nothing to do with being vegan they are incompetent morons.

isn't a common belief among vegans that cows milk is meant only for the cows babies? how is human breast milk any different? it is meant for humans and is completely unlike animal products. i don't get it.

I could see if the mom was vegan then the milk would be ok as it would be a vegan milk I guess. The parents in the article really needed to take that child to a dr and determine if there was an allergy and get proper medical help not personal opinion of allergy.

My best friend is vegan and she's been exclusively breastfeeding for over a year. She has the full support of her doctor and her little dude's pediatrician and he's fully thriving having an exclusively vegan diet. If done properly and with the support of friends and family it can be done and done well.

some babies can only drink soy milk due to a milk allergy so im not sure why the baby died but that's horrible.
