What do you think about dumpster diving at store dumpsters?

There's a lot of videos on YouTube of people who dumpster dive at places like Ulta, Gamestop, Verizon and other places. Ulta is a popular one and I love watching those ones because they find some good stuff sometimes!

I see nothing wrong with it.

What I think is wrong is how so many stores throw away perfectly good food or expensive makeup. It's a huge waste and I don't blame people who go dumpster diving for that stuff. And it's even a bigger waste since now so many stores are destroying perfectly good items that can go to those who need them.

I would rather buy my stuff from reputable stores but I suppose a thrift store isn't too different. But I draw the line at dumpster diving for food unless you really need it. I watched a show on extreme cheapskates and the people who dumpster dived for food just to save money (had nice jobs just didn't want to pay for food) made me gag.

When I was younger my mom was struggling with an eating disorder and severe depression, when we were running out of money and she stopped buying enough food or really... even... food from the store my brother and I would look for the meats they threw away because they were a little past date. We knew what time they tossed the meat and milk and such and we would get to it before it sat outside for too long. 
I have no shame in that. If we hadn't done it, we would have spent a few years in a hell of a pickle. It was important to me that my mom had the opportunity to eat and my older brother wanted to be sure I ate. I am glad we swallowed our pride enough to do this. 
Now, as a result, I regularly donate to any charity trying to help provide food for impoverished families and individuals.

I've done it a couple times when I was in HS (the only way I could afford high end beauty products) but I've done it to collect cans, food, and I refurbished a broken patio set out of one b4

I wouldn't do it now because I'm not hurting for cash. That and apparently u can get arrested for dumpster diving

My grandfather used to do it. He had a hoarding problem and mental problems so he would just pick and keep every piece of trash that wasn't totally destroyed. I'm not a fan of it for obvious reasons. But when my grandfather died we found out he was a millionaire. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Once it's put into the trash it's public domain, unless your city has a law on it or the store has trespassing signs.

I would do it at Ulta only if I knew I wouldn't get caught. They probably have cameras set up. It would be interesting to see what's been thrown out.
