Which kind of birth control do you recommend?

I'm getting married this October and I need to figure out what I'm going to do for birth control. I've had this app for a while and I've read the gems about different birth control options; I have perused the comments and have seen mixed reviews. (I have an appointment in August to talk about it with my doctor.)

I'm kind of scared of the pill because when I was in my early teens I always saw commercials about Yaz and Yazmine killing people and it's like, "if you took Yaz and DIED, you could get compensated" or whatever. I also have depression and anxiety and it concerns me how the pill might affect my emotional health. I don't need any help feeling depressed and I definitely don't want to be suicidal.

I just recently watched a video about the IUD by BuzzFeed and the comments were like, "don't do it! It was so painful" "I had to have mine removed only a few months later!" etc. (My best friend's sister actually had hers fall out. Weird.)

I don't know much about the implant, ring, or the sponge.

Then there's just old fashion condoms. But I've heard guys complain about them and stuff (which I don't know if that is valid really, they should be able to deal with a condom if a woman has to deal with pregnancy and childbirth 🤷).

Anyway, let me know what you think!

I had the mirena IUD, it was great, no worries, no stress, nothing to remember, no periods. Had it for 3 years and just got it out in February. I would highly recommend it. There are horror stories about ever type of birth control so I wouldn't knock any of them, sometimes it take some trying to find one that works well with your needs and expectations. What works for one person might not work for the other

Pill is cheap, and you can stop anytime you are ready to have a baby and my OBGYN says once you stop you can get pregnant within the week if the timing is right and stuff. So for us that was the best option.

My husband and I use the natural method and it works for us so far. We've been married a year and a half. You have to have a fairly regular cycle for this to work the best. If you are in your fertile time (green zone) either don't have intercourse or he can pull out. To be really safe he would always pull out except for about 3-4 days after my period and the last week before my period.

No pill. No condoms. All natural and I love it.

I have tried it all, I loved the ring that was great. If I had to go back to some form of BC I would choose natural planning. That's just me. I don't like the way all the drugs have side effects.

I just wanted to mention on the Yaz, I was on that for yearsssss and never had any issues. It was actually amazing!! To the fact where my period had gone away. That was just something some lawyers came up with from "connections" within a case. Something someone dug really deep into to make money. When those commercials first started I went to my doctor. She said it was something called black boxes? Lawyers do it for money from pharmaceuticals. Look at all the commercials for everything. Anyways lol sorry for the long rant just wanted to put that in about Yaz.

I am on the ring for issues with ovarian cysts, and also having anxiety/depression, it was a great option for me as it desnt make my mental health worse like I know other people have said the pill does. It's super easy and you just mess with it once a month instead of trying to remember to take a pill at the same time everyday! ❤️

Be aware of your cycle and your body! I have used condoms, pull out method, as well as BC all within the last 7-8 years. I keep going back to fertility awareness. I love how it makes me feel in control of my body. I also deal with anxiety and I like knowing that I'm not putting a drug into my body that will alter my mood. Fertility awareness can be something that you practice WITH your husband. I feel like its important for the husband to understand how his wife's body works and understand where she's at in her cycle. That way you can be cautious during ovulation and refrain from having sex on those days.

I don't really think you can beat the pill. It's easy to change if one type doesn't suit you and it's easy to come off if you want to start a family.

I liked ortho evra (birth control patch, generic name xulane). I did the pills 2 years and was always nauseous whether i took them with or without food,  even tried diff times of day.

Then i tried depo provera, and i swear it changed the inside layout of my lady bits, as in doggie style was no longer a feasible sex position because it was excruciatingly painful.

Tried the patches. Other than a lil bit of skin discoloration at application site (looks like i have a small square tan on my hip lol), and itchiness the first two days right after new patch application, i love them! Apply a new patch once a week and remove the old one. Patchless week is period week. I absolutely recommend them! I use Express Scripts and get a 3 month supply. W my insurance, $0. Love love love it!
