Can anyone give me any insights/experiences on there first days home with baby #1?

Would like to hear about others experiences on their first/week home with baby #1.

It was kind of awkward at first. We just laid her down in her bassinet and were like "what do we do with this little creature?" Lol. I asked everyone to please give us privacy for a couple days, but no one listened. The day we came home, my in laws came over with pizza and then my parents showed up. The next day, my sister and her family showed up. The next day, four of my friends plus my in laws showed up. I was extremely overwhelmed. If you have people come over, I honestly wouldn't be afraid to ask them to help out around the house. It may look rude but you just had a baby, and you're recovering, too, and not really in a condition to entertain. I finally got my mom washing dishes, my mother in law did some laundry, and my dad watched the baby so I could nap. Lol. The babies sleep a lot the first few days. Ammarie wasn't as hectic as I thought she'd be. It's just a big adjustment and trying to find a new routine. You're trying to get to know her and she's trying to get to know you. If you have a supportive and active SO it helps so much. If you don't, then family can help out so much.

We just survived our first week home. Baby was 3.5 weeks early. Our biggest thing was getting him to eat enough. Figuring out breastfeeding and baby learning to eat has been our biggest challenge. Having a great pediatrician and Lactation consultant has been the most valuable thing. My sister would also come over just so I could take a shower or a nap. I really hate when they tell you to sleep when baby sleeps because it's easier said than done. The other thing I didn't realize was that my husband needed the support and breaks almost more than I did. When he got burned out I realized he needed to sleep all day or go to the gym. A luxury that I wouldn't get but worth it. I need his support and him functioning.

It's honestly just like a huge adjustment, and you almost won't know what to do besides stare at them to make sure that they are okay lol
