The best possible way to lighten strict parents?

I'm 17 & in 3 months I'll be 18 and I'm still on LD. I live in ft lauderdale & My mom wouldn't even let me go to west palm for a 1 week vacation with my cousins! She doesn't want me to have a boyfriend either but I still do & I can't even have a conversation with her about sex😕😐 what can I do to let her ease up on me ?

I have strict parents as well. From experience, I've learned that I sometimes have to fight with them to get what I want. I don't like arguing with them, but if I didn't, I wouldn't be in an important extracurricular that could get me into good colleges. Since you're a lot older than me and possibly haven't or hardly argue with your parents, it might surprise them, so use it as a last resort. Timing is everything as well. If they're having a moment that demonstrates their humanness (e.g., they've mentioned their own sex life or past relationships, their past, etc), try to start conversations about your own life. You don't have to be specific, but drop hints about what you want (e.g., I think I'm at a place where I want a boyfriend, etc). Always make yourself seem wiser than other kids your age – even if they already think that. It might seem mean, but it's how I've convinced my parents I wouldn't do anything wrong (although think long and hard about the consequences. I don't lie to go to parties and drink or smoke because that's not me and using lies to go to those places will NOT make them trust you, especially if they find out – experiences I know through my sister. Wait until you're out of the house if you're really down for that). Everyone wants their parents to be their friends, to be able to tell them everything. Sometimes it takes a while to get that point, so you'll have to be patient with them. Also mentioning things like the fact that you're almost 18 and getting older will give them more perspective, that you are at a point where you'll have to start making your own decisions anyway. Mention you're getting older and this is America when you reach 18 you're on your own so if she doesn't cut you some slacks how can you learn about the world out there and what's gonna happen when you want to go to college.
