Do I need to buy a mattress pad?

I just bought a crib + mattress and I'm curious, do I need to buy a mattress pad?

My sister used to layer hers... She had a waterproof mattress but would get those thin waterproof pads too. She would put a pad down with a sheet, then another pad and another sheet.... It really wasn't bulky or unsafe or anything.... When baby had a blow out it was just a matter of grabbing the top sheet and pad throwing it in the wash. No fighting with putting a new pad and sheet on a crib mattress at 3 am. Thinking about doing the same if I can find the same kind of pads...

I did because blow outs happen and you can strip the bed, clorox wipe it, put a fresh sheet on and go back to bed. my mattress is wipeable, but it made life easier.

Is the mattress waterproof? If not, i would recommend the pad :)

I bought one and it was very useful, even though we have a wipeable mattress. It saved a ton of poop and pee accidents from being even messier.
