how long do 3 month clothes from carters last?

I am due in October and I have yet to buy any clothes for my son. I need to figure out how many I need to get and I want to know how long they will last. How long do 3 month clothes from carters last usually?

Our daughter was born average 7 lbs 1 oz and 19 inches long.  She was in newborn for 4 weeks. 1-3 months for 8 weeks. 3-6 months for 4 weeks. 6-9 months for 8 weeks. She's now 9 months and 23 lbs- in  9-12 months clothes.
They grow out of them fast. I have HUNDREDS of clothes she never even worn...bevause she's been in long sleepers, or onsies for the whole time.. knowing all this now,  I wish I was smarter and bought clothes at consignment stores instead of full price at brand name stores..

Carters runs more generous sizing than many other brands, gerber being one of the smallest running brands I know. The kid may go through the sizes quickly or slowly. But a 3 mo will probably be wearable longer from carters than most other brands. But on a smaller baby it may be too big for a little while. I have a 2 yr old who Just moved into size 4t clothes, and my friend has a 2 1/2 yr old who is in 18 months still. So a lot does depend on the kid.

my baby girl is 3 months old and around 13ish pounds. carters 3 months fit but are a bit snug, and 6 months fit but are a bit loose.

They do shrink. The pants last a bit longer though. My son was in 3 months until 4 months but every baby is different. He's been in the right months of clothes pretty much since he was born.
