Considering Paragard
I've been on a progesterone only pill for about 7 years (started when I was 18, turning 25 in a few weeks), originally because I wanted to protect myself during college, and I also happen to have a clotting disorder that would prevent me from using a combination pill (estrogen can cause clots). For a while, it wasn't bad- I had some irregularity, but nothing terrible. Last year, my pharmacy changed the brand, and I've had so many issues with late/completely skipped periods (once for 83 days), then bleeding for a month straight, acne, and most importantly, severe depression and anxiety. This past year, I've experienced several random depressive episodes, lasting only a few hours, and they always seem to happen around the same week of my cycle. I've also developed a really severe lack of motivation, and I find certain situations to be way more stressful than I ever used to.
I've talked to my doctor, and because of my clotting disorder, I can't really be on a different pill... so I'm considering the copper IUD. No hormones, so my moods might stabilize a little, more regular periods (late/missing periods make me extremely anxious), less of a chance of pregnancy...
I guess I'm just wondering how painful insertion was- I've never had a baby, so I've never had my cervix dilated before. I'm also wondering if this is even a good option, considering I want to start having kids in the next 5 years, but not for another year or two. And maybe just some general IUD advice/encouragement...? I know the main side effects, just kind of looking for some others' experiences!
Thanks!
