1st birthday party?

My baby will be 1 very soon & I don't know if I should have a part for her or not. I don't have any family even remotely close to me. my husband has A LOT of family near by but he isn't "close" to them. & we each have a small handful of friends. I'm not sure if we should have a birthday party or not. We live in our townhouse so our place is out of the question. If we do it at his moms house it would be her guests, her decorations & her food. Which neither of us are fond of.

We want to have a small celebration or to take her out to go hiking or something... HELP!
