Should I get a cool mist humidifier?

Question

I'm not sure if I should buy a humidifier or not because I'm not exactly sure what they are used for. I read in what to expect the first year that cool mist humidifiers are best but it doesn't explain what it is used for. What are the pros and cons of a humidifier and what is it used for? Also I am living in south Florida and my baby will be born in November (I'm not sure if this matters) can anyone please give me advice ?  
Btw I'm posting this as anonymous because I'm a little embarrassed that I don't know what this is used.

It's makes the air cool and moist for baby if they get a cold or a cough. I use mine all the time. My son is almost two and has had probably a dozen colds and every time I use the humidifier to keep things moist so he doesn't get congested. When he got his first cold he was still very little so he slept in a hat so he wouldn't get too cold.

I also live in south Florida and when the kids get colds we use them and it does help them a lot. If they're congested, there's also the Vicks where it gives the air in the room the menthol smell. I recommend it.

I've had this one for about 7 months & it's awesome!! It's got a wonderful nightlight on top that changes different colors. My son loves to look up at it.

Don't be embarrassed, you would most likely laugh at all the weird, maybe common knowledge questions, I ask my pediatrician on a regular basis. We love our humidifier. The cool air one is great because it is safer. The hot steam ones can cause burns, I've read, but I still use one in our room. As everyone has said, we just use ours when he has a cold, or we do. We also use it in the living room when it gets dry from air conditioning or winter months.

Got one loved it until I put a new filter in and didn't follow the instructions and the thing messed up!!!!!!! 😑😑😑😑 ALWAYS FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! Lol

Yes we use one almost every night. Always when kids get colds. My one son suffers from Cronic croupe and asthma and it helps

i absolutely recommend getting one! I love mine! i have the Anypro brand! it helps with that newborn congestion, purifies and freshens the air.
