Zoo for family day??

Question

My husband wants to take our daughter to the zoo, but I don't want to see all the animals in captivity. My husband wants to make it a family day and I don't know if I can do it. What should I do? I want our daughter to have fun, but I know I won't feel right.

Okay, but here's the thing about zoos. A lot of the animals that they acquire, are animals that have been hurt, or badly injured and can not safely re-enter the wild, animals that have been victims of natural disasters and illegal poaching, and rescue efforts. I read a book about a baby hippo that was separated from his Mother and his heard when a dam broke and the rivers flooded. If he hadn't been rescued, when he had, he would have drowned and without his Mother to take care of him, he would have died in the wild. So they took him to the nearest zoo/wildlife refuge and he is thriving! Also, a lot of animals are endangered and by keeping some in captivity, they can breed those animals to help save those species! A lot of it's about conservation efforts and research. So remember when you see some of those caged animals, that sometimes, it really is in their best interest. And your money, goes towards supporting those efforts. Zoo's are not the enemy! Yeah sure, there are some questionable ones out there, but a lot of them are doing all they can to help those animals and they really do need your support! I know a lot of people have their misconceptions about zoos, and "keeping animals in captivity for their own financial gain," but that's simply not the case. It goes much deeper than that.

It's a zoo, yes it's sad that animals are kept in cages but they're everywhere. Just like aquariums. And some of the animals in the zoo are actually better off there due to being close to extinction so it's not all bad. 
Just try to go have fun and let your daughter have a fun day ☺️ 
My 16 month old LOVES the zoo and we actually go pretty frequently as one of his first birthday gifts was a zoo pass. It's also a good way to teach your daughter about the animals and everything

Not every zoo is bad. There are some terrible places out there, but I've been to plenty of zoos that actually are trying to help the animals. You could do research on your particular zoo and see if it's a bad one that treats its animals poorly, or a good one that truly loves its animals. For me, that's what determines if I go to a particular zoo/sanctuary. I would rather give my money to those who mean good rather than the ones who only want dollar bills in their pockets.

I have a feeling people are going to be posting on here about how you should just "suck it up" or how it's ridiculous to see it that way; I've been seeing a lot of that lately. So I just wanted to pop in here and say that I hate going to the zoo for exactly that reason, so I totally understand! I personally wouldn't take my children to the zoo because I don't agree with captivity or in my experience, even some of the treatment of the animals. If it's something that bothers you, you shouldn't have to go. Stand up for your feelings on this one
