birthday party?

What's everyone doing for their daughter or son first birthday? I would love to have a small party but there isn't any babies in my family around her age. Just 1.

Something small with just immediate family. It'll be held at my in law's apartment but we're celebrating it one day early because her actual birthday is on a Monday.
We decided to use the money for a weekend family trip instead of using the money for a huge party. The weekend following her first birthday we're driving 2 hours south to a city that's next to the ocean-- it is well known for their aquarium! On the way back up, we're going to stop at the boardwalk and take her to the beach and carousel (and whatever else rides she can get on).
We got a suite at the hotel (a Best Western so nothing too fancy 😂) that has an outdoor heated pool so it'll be her first time in a pool!

my boyfriend said he wants to go all out so I said okay fine with me lol. it's just fun to have everyone around for her since our families never really hangout. I want to do a dr.seus theme for her but idk she doesn't watch tv much and all I really do is read her dr.seus books I think it will be cute but I'm still deciding.i also want to let her smash a cake or something like that at the same time as her party hopefully I can figure everything out before the end of August.

My son is the only baby in our family also. There's a couple of older kids but I think we will just have a tea party in the house for a couple of hours so people can come and see him. I figured everyone would want to see him on his bday so it's easier just having everyone around at once and putting on a small buffet and cake.
