Bad pump or bad boobs?

Question

I was purely expressing for my little one as he was so fussy and wouldnt latch. But now i cant do it anymore. Feels like the machine is literally gonna rip my nipples off any minute (already tore one part of my areola (spelling?)). Do you think that it's my machine or is it something that can happen from regular expressing? If it may be the pump, anyone have a recommended one? Thanks...

Your pump shouldn't hurt. So if it is hurting then you should turn it down to just below when it hurts.

Pumping shouldn't hurt or injured you. Did you crank it all the way up? Don't, especially in the beginning when your nipples are not used to all this "action". There is no such thing as bad boobs. Use a nipple cream. I just use coconut oil. I also rub a tiny big onto the flange--the skinny part right where it begins to flare. This allows my nipple to slide smoothly, so less aggravation. You can also look into manually expressing milk with your hand until your injured nipple heals.
