why car seats are one use/accident only

this is just a little public service announcement for anyone who maybe didn't know this or was wondering why this is the case.

any car seat is one time use meaning if you are in an accident, you need to replace it. Often times insurance will cover this cost.

the reason is because car seats, like motorcycle helmets, use a specific type of foam that keeps you safe in the event of a crash. once the Integrity of this foam is compromised, it no longer provides protection. However, there's no way to check and see if an accident has damaged the foam so this is why a a seat or a helmet must be completely replaced in the event of a crash.

expecting ladies - get your car seat base installed ahead of time, by all means, but do not put the actual seat in until you are headed to the hospital for this reason
