If your child does something wrong, would you protect them from facing the consequences or would you teach them and make sure they face consequences?

I don't understand parents who say they'll protect their child no matter what. If your child is in a hit and run, you'll take the blame. If your child drives drink, you'll do everything in your power to make sure they don't get jail time. 
It's my job to be a mother. Not a friend. If my child is doing something wrong, whether it's bullying or driving drunk, he better not come running to me to save him. My job is to teach him and to make sure he learns from his mistakes. 
How are you helping your child by enabling them and allowing them to live in a world where they don't face consequences?

I don't think people have the mindset of "I won't teach my kids right from wrong!" 
I think they have the subconscious feeling that their baby doesn't deserve the punishment from the school or whatever, that they can understand right from wrong without it. I can understand it but it's really sad and annoying to watch happen.

I love my children, my oldest has developmental delays. Do I let him do whatever he wants because of his disabilitys? Hell no. I'm definitely not for this gental parenting bull. It creates bratty entitled children.

It's not my job to keep everything bad from happening to my child. It's my job to help my child become a productive and beneficial member of society.

I've seen this on cop shows, and I do not understand it. If my child does an act like killing, selling or doing drugs, or hit and run- or anything of that nature, I'm telling my kid to turn themselves in or I'll do it myself.

You need to teach them, because if they just get away with it they'll learn to take advantage of you. I have an adopted uncle who is mentally disabled, only slightly though so he's full functioning and knows what he's doing, but my grandma still feels bad for punishing him because of his disability, so he gets away with stealing money from her purse and from other people, and he is constantly doing it, like 100$ a month. My moms trying to convince her to just call the cops on him once so he can face the consequences and learn that what he's doing is bad and won't be taken lightly, but she just won't do it, and because of that he most likely is going to take advantage of her for the rest of her life.

It depends on the seriousness of what they did. If they were to hit me and the neighbors called the cops, I would deny it. Then I would punish them myself and make sure they never did that again. If it was a hit and run or something, they should know better. I wouldn't throw them under the bus, but I wouldn't take the blame either. It would be their responsibilty to come forward about it, and if they don't, they will have to deal with those consequences too.

I thought having a child came with the understanding that you might have to help put them in prison one day. It's an unspoken possibility, but it's also common sense. Or at least it should be in my opinion.

I don't think parents have malicious intent in regards to protecting their children. People are so hell bent on loyalty and unconditional love that they misconstrue the option of protecting and teaching. It is okay to teach your child what they did was wrong, ensure they face the consequences but protect them during the process.
