Airport Security - injured/sick/disabled

Th

At the worst point of my eating problems I was extremely frail. I was traveling back to the Caribbean with my family and we were in a large UK airport which would require a lot of walking.

Long story short, at check-in they asked if I was okay (I looked thin and sick a lot) and I said yes but I wasn't feeling well.

They then offered me a wheelchair since I guess I looked THAT bad.

I gladly accepted because it meant my family could actually go do shopping and stuff without worrying it was too much for me.

Going through security was what shocked me. I was wheeled into an area (not through one of those alarm doors/gates that detect metal) and scanned with a wand. The wand went off and I was preparing to stand for another check but the woman went "don't worry, just go through!"

I could have had anything. They literally did no checks. I had my bag on the side of the wheelchair and no one even checked that.

Obviously I didn't ask to be searched further since that's the kind of thing that raises red flags in an airport, but it genuinely made me uncomfortable that the security procedures were so nonexistent for people in wheelchairs.

Shouldn't it be the same? Or is the idea that they're in a wheelchair so couldn't possibly be up to something bad? Or maybe even tougher since it might be a way to distract from moving illegal substances/anything else?

Also, if you've ever gone through alternative airport security for disabled/sick people, was it the same as my experience?
